Getting your paintball marker permit now takes as little as 24 hours

In New South Wales, obtaining a paintball marker permit requires applicants to be at least 18 years old, pass a “fit and proper” person assessment (including police/financial checks), and complete the NSW Paintball Marker Safety Training course.

Safety Training: Complete the mandatory NSW Paintball Marker Safety Training course (approx. 30-minute online course). Cost $65

Permits are valid for 1, 3, or 5 years and allow possession of markers, which must be used only at authorized venues.

Key requirements & steps

    • Eligibility check: Must not be a convicted offender (within 10 years), not a declared criminal organization member, not an undischarged bankrupt, and not mentally incapacitated.
    • Application: apply online via Service NSW.
  • Interstate/international: If visiting NSW for less than 3 months, you may not need a permit if you hold a current equivalent from another state/territory. International players may need an international paintball competitor permit.

Important notes

  • A permit is required to buy or own a marker.
  • You must use the marker at an authorized venue.
  • While not required in all states, some areas may require membership in a club or a letter of support from a paintball field to demonstrate a “genuine reason”.

Once you receive your permit (usually 24-48 hours) you can go shopping!
